I actually love this restaurant. We've eaten out at other Thai restaurants where we live and other places we've traveled to and this one is actually one of the best ones we've been to. Prices are cheaper than the ones we have in our area and the food is really good. The service was great as well. We ordered the veggie spring rolls and the coconut chicken soup for appetizer and they were both great. Matter of fact, I love the heating bowl they have for the soup and it's more than enough for 3 people. We ordered the fried flounder which is shareable and it was great! I especially love the 3 sauces they have on it. Overall a great dining experience!

Our past experiences at Basil have been most positive and tonight was no exception. With Restaurant Week pricing of 3 courses for $20.00, you can't go wrong ... there were many appetizers and entrees to choose plus a choice of three yummy desserts. There were three diners in our party. We each ordered the Basil 'summer' rolls. The order came with 2 plump rolls, stuffed with shrimp, rice noodles and veggies and accompanied with a small bowl of a delightful dipping sauce topped with peanuts. Our guest ordered the Pad Thai, Extra spicy , with chicken and shrimp. The portion was huge and I understand that if was delicious. Our server brought out a small plate with 3 containers of different hot sauces. My husband and I both ordered the Basil Tilapia. It came plated with an assortment of julienne vegetables and was luscious, A large covered pot of white rice was provided for the table. It was ample ... we did not need a second helping. Our dessert selections included coconut cream with sticky rice and a tower of chocolate mousse on a raspberry macaroon covered in milk chocolate. Yum! Our server, Alisha, was attentive and timed delivery of the courses, well. Don't wait for next Restaurant Week to check out Basil. With its stylish exterior and interior, fabulous view and well priced menu selections, you'll enjoy the whole experience. Be sure to check out the second floor bar.

This place has one of the coolest upstairs bar and lounging areas. They have multiple balcony's that have very comfortable cushion seating along with a fair amount of table space. It's a perfect place to soak up some rays in cocktail attire, order some champagne and apps. The bar is quite nice as well. I was with a small group to basically take down some drinks. We sat at the upstairs bar and ordered almost every app they offer to share. The bartender was very nice and we were able to just order everything right at the bar, which is always nice. The food was excellent! I really don't have anything negative to say and can't think of anything i didn't like. The apps are all very reasonably priced as well. I can't wait to go back for a nice sit down dinner with friends. I just know that it will be wonderful! This place is great!

Love love the ambience and atmosphere. Sit at the outdoor bar upstairs if you can. We sat right by the kitchen prep window and I loved watching all the food come out. Lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. My husband's shrimp in the pad Thai was WAY over cooked and rubbery, but we enjoyed our experience otherwise. The service was splendid and our glasses were never empty.

This Basil location is unquestionably inferior to their downtown location. That being said, it is well suited for Mt. Pleasant in comparison: higher prices, smaller portions, and worse service...but it's got to be good because it's in Mt. P and everyone is going there, RIGHT? Service here is generally not so good. Not terrible, but definitely not good considering the price point. The hostesses at the front are always acting overwhelmed, despite the fact that there are usually three of them and only a couple of people waiting. The food is definitely made with the same recipes as the downtown location, however, it feels more mass-produced and made with less care here, and the portion sizes are slightly smaller. The only possible advantage this location has is the fact that they take reservations. The downtown location does not; but it is well worth the wait. The only reason we ever go to the Seaside Farms Basil is because we have some friends who live nearby. I give two stars because I have high expectations for Basil; and this particular location certainly lets me down every time.

Had a business dinner here. Very good Thai food. We are many miles removed from Thailand, so keep that in mind. Tom Kha, Curry and Classics are great. Staff polite, drinks strong and cold. If looking for a good Thai dinner, at reasonable pricing, I recommend.

The food is good, but nothing outstanding. I was here for work so I sat at the bar and the service was disappointing. Not as friendly as the other places I've visited while I was here. I had a chicken curry dish and enhanced it with some of the red sauce they bring to the table. The outdoor area looks like it would be a nice place to sit and have some drinks.

We return to Basil a few times a year, whenever we visit IOP. This time, sadly, was disappointing. The duck was a bit dry. The ginger wasn't fine or marinated enough, so it tasted like matchsticks. My FIL's martini was watered down. So was their signature drink. I wonder if they sent their supplier to Ohio to get the 20% vodka, or simply topped off the bottles with water. We were asked if everything was great when 1/3 of the diners didn't have their dinners. The flounder's sauce was sugary sweet & the duck's sauce was too thin and not spicy, as requested. Still, the flounder itself was well fried & 2 of the diners enjoyed their pad Thai. The space remains serene & beautiful, but they're skimping on details. I know they've recently expanded to a third store in Columbia, but this wasn't fantastic & we expected a LOT better. 3* because we will try them again, possibly only one more time if they can't get their s*** together.

Fantastic atmosphere, great wine list, chill outdoor seating - and GREAT dishes at a reasonable price. We were so glad to finally discover this place. The half duck is to die for!

Always delicious!! I've never had a bad meal here. The Mt. Pleasant location is my favorite b/c the parking isn't so bad; and the atmosphere and decor are beautiful, relaxing and spacious. I'll forever be a returning customer.

The atmosphere is great here. There is beautiful outdoor seating. The decor is very nice. I did like the food but was disappointed. I heard such rave reviews. I ordered the daily special, a cold rice noodle with chicken. The taste was good but I couldn't find the chicken ( they said is was ground chicken) and my noodles were about 1 inch long. It seem like they were the remains of a larger batch.

Great restaurant! A co-worker and I spent a week down in Mt. Pleasant for work. The first Asian restaurant that we went to at the beginning of the trip was called Bambu. It was mediocre! We are from NYC and found Basil via a google search. We were so lucky. We were seated immediately in the upstairs lounge area where we ate dinner (no reservations). We tried the Green curry/chicken and Thai basil fried rice. Both excellent. The chicken wings and basil spring rolls are "must have" appetizers. Please take my word that these folks know how to cook good Thai food. I compared it to some of the best in lower Manhattan and it far surpasses my expectations. AND.....if you remember...do yourself a favor and ask for Emily as your server. By far the most pleasant waitress that I've had in the past few years. She was awesome.....which is why we came back to Basil on our last night before our flight out of SC. Basil A++ Emily-server A++++

Went to dinner for valentine's day and it was my first time there. Our server Sarah was very personable and knowledgeable of the menu. I like asking for suggestions from the servers and she was spot on with her favorite choices. The food and wine was fantastic. Will definitely be back again! Thanks for the great experience

I've been repeatedly disappointed in the food at this Basil location. I live a short distance away from this Basil and always try to give it the benefit of the doubt because I know how great the Basil downtown is and continues to be. Tonight's meal made the decision to write a disappointing review very clear and easy. We ordered the Pad see eu and pad Thai (how do you screw up pad Thai seriously)?? The chicken in both dishes was super dry and tough(what I've noticed previously, but again, trying to remain hopeful), and the noodles were super dry and tasteless In the pad Thai. The pad Thai, which is on the menu as including shrimp, peanuts, and pad Thai sauce...had nothing of the sorts. Not a tiny peanut, not 1 piece of shrimp, and finally, no sauce to be found. The best part of this dish was the teaspoon sized dollop of sauce I added (stolen from the sauce that came with the eggrolls), to a small portion of the noodles. Disappointed and not sure we'll be ordering again anytime soon....

Great food and drinks. We are vegetarian and they had excellent options. Also exemplary service from the servers and management. My husband dropped his phone behind a booth and the manager was fantastic in helping us get it from a near impossible place to reach! Overall, would highly recommend from ambience, food options, beverages, and service.

I really enjoy Basil. I love the Pad Thai (Medium Spicy). The best I've had in the area...its the only thing I get. Its that good that I can't convince myself to get anything else. lol

My favorite thai place in town. The basil duck is awesome (expensive, but awesome) and the pad thai is great too! The MTP location takes reservations. Also, Basil seems to be the only restaurant that actually offers a deal during Restaurant Week--with most places you usually end up paying as much or more than if you just ordered off the menu.

This Basil location is absolutely on par with the downtown location in all respects with the exception of not being inside the downtown Mecca of Upper King. But it makes up for that with a different feel as it is nestled inside a quiet, upscale shopping community. The back of the restaurant is comfortably pressed against a soothing pond, with a very cool upstairs partly open air bar. The restaurant is far more spacious than its sister location, and more well appointed with an architectural feel I will attempt to describe as minimalist and modern with a dash of asian infusion. The food is consistently solid at the level we have come to expect and enjoy as patrons of the King St location for many years. Give it a try. You will be pleased...

  • Jim S.

Disappointing all around. The hostess was rude. It seemed like they cooked the shrimp and chicken separate and then throw it on top of whatever dish you order. We will not be coming back. With so many good choices around I do not understand why people come here.

Loved the food and the service was outstanding. Most importantly my very picky children really enjoyed their meal. We tried the wings which were a special appetizer and they had a light and delicious flavor. The server suggested I try a salad that I didn't see on the menu. Perfect portion and delicious.

I thought the food was excellent and I'm already craving more. We are big seafood fans, so we got the seafood soup, mixed seafood entree and shrimp w/ flat noodles. Sorry, I don't remember the actual names. All were great and perfectly spiced as they said they would be - medium. We are from up-north and I've been craving drunken noodles in the worst way. The flatten noodles were about as close as possible w/ only the slightest difference. Delicious! We loved the presentation of the soup, except the cups you scoop your soup into were so small it was awkward to eat, but luckily it was so delicious you got past that quickly. The building is beautiful, but we were bothered by 2 things. When we made reservations (It was Valentine's Day we were going) several days in advance we were told absolutely nothing would be available until 9pm. We showed up at 8pm figuring we'd get a drink at the bar and the place was more than 1/2 empty. Also, our seats were so uncomfortably close we had difficulty having a conversation - we might as well have been sitting with the couples to our right and left. I'd go again, hoping the seating was due to shoving more people in for the special day, but if that's the norm, the seating would probably keep me from going again.

Most likely the best Thai food in South Carolina. Everything is made fresh. The kitchen is separated from the dining area with glass so you can see what's going on and it's very impressive. Fresh ginger, basil, bamboo shoots, other vegetables and fresh meat. And if you still need more convincing that every single ingredient is fresh the aroma of your entree will be the proof. So many spices and just the right amount of each make every entree, specially their curries over the top. The thai iced tea is also fantastic. This is the only place in Charleston that makes it exactly as it should be and not too sweet. The place is nicely decorated. It's very modern and classy yet simple and elegant. The happy hour is also pretty good. Fairly priced appetizers can be ordered in the relaxing ambiance of the upstairs bar. There's also outside seating that's very nice.

Food: 4 Price: 4 Ambience: 4 Service: 5 Date/Time: 5/7/2015 7pm This was a very nice place...think Thai version of PF Changs....decorative, pricey....and noisy. Pad Kee Mow was very tasty as you'd expect from a restaurant like this. The menu is a little pricey relative to the taste and quality of the food you can find in a standard Thai restaurant but again the food was very good. There is both indoor and outdoor seating in addition to a bar upstairs that has daily happy hour. Service was excellent! Definitely recommended for special occasions.

Absolutely love this place! The basil Thai with beef is my favorite. It has the Perfect spicy kick! The serving size is perfect because often times I can take some home for leftovers the next day. The fried wontons are really good too for an appetizer! I have tried the sweet and sour chicken and was not crazy about that. It didn't have much flavor..I think it was more the chicken then the sauce. Id be open to trying it again with beef. My friend got the pad Thai. I really want to try that next time. Looked delicious! Last night, we went and had their special appetizer which was Thai wings It was really good. The atmosphere really makes it at Basil in Mt.Pleasant. It is located right next to a pond and their is a bar area that overlooks the pond. Along with the interior design, it feels just like you are in Thailand.

We were visiting Mt. Pleasant and wanted to take some family out to dinner- this is the place they chose. The location is beautiful! Great decor. We got appetizers and drinks- the food came out quickly (and the place was busy!) and hot. I shared the Three Flavored fish- it was flavorful and a beautiful dish. Glad we were able to try this place on our trip.

I really enjoy Basil. I love the Pad Thai (Medium Spicy). The best I've had in the area...its the only thing I get. Its that good that I can't convince myself to get anything else. lol

Disappointing all around. The hostess was rude. It seemed like they cooked the shrimp and chicken separate and then throw it on top of whatever dish you order. We will not be coming back. With so many good choices around I do not understand why people come here.
